I went to the BDA drag strip last week to take a tour of the construction. I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw: the new 1/8 mile of concrete racing surface was very flat, wide, and smooth. They were pouring new continuous safety barriers (walls) and completing the new spectator stands. The safety barriers will have steel mesh above the concrete to stop any debris flying into the stands. This barrier in itself may not stop a heavy car a speed, so they are going to move the spectators further back from the track and, perhaps elevate them. These are needed improvements. i hope that the racers themselves will also "make improvements" in their approach to drag racing in car safety preparation and on-track safety attitudes. If this new surface is prepared correctly ("rubberized" and sprayed with VHT) it should be a world class facility capable of producing world class performance -- good news to all the Thai racers.
